The end of my quest!

The end of my quest!

When I started this quest I first thought it will be easy. I was so excited to get done my plan. I did think about what to choose as quest, so I won’t get bored. Finally I chose fitness because I want to loose some extra pounds, be happy, to feel confident of myself and to eat healthy. Since the quest started I hit the gym regularly the first weeks. I enjoyed moments spent at the gym. I made some friends. At the end of the 30 days, I lost few pounds even though I didn’t succeed.
I thought by doing this quest, it was just too loose weight but it was more than that. I learn how to focus on something important that I chose to accomplish. It was excited how much you can do thing even though it is not easy to follow. I told to myself I can make it even I failed in some parts I really enjoyed it. I fixed a goal to pursuit and I did it. I missed some days in my quest because I got sick. But I was motivated by mother, my brother and my roommate. Because of me my roommate is more often at the gym too.
I sometimes in my blog I didn’t have too much to say or describe but for me it is not the important. The essential thing is pursuit a goal in this life wherever it is hard, however the weather, the season, the wind, to get through it. Nothing in this earth is impossible we can do it if we want it. so go for it in any situation of your never give up.

Last week( thurs & friday)

Thursday
Thursday, Thursday, Thursdays… men, to be really honest with you, I love this particular day of the week. It’s just the day before the week-end start on Friday; very calm and quiet; to me Thursdays and Sundays are just like. Thankful and bless days they are.
As well as every one of us get ready on Sundays for the week start; the same way I prepared everything on Thursdays before entered the week-end on Friday.
As usual, I got up early in the morning, and, started running; I’ve always make sure to use the gym after that. And when I come home, I find something liter to eat and stretched myself on the floor a little bit for about three hours before taking shower. There after, I ran to the store to grab some few things if needed. Ooh, man I kind of forget: I also usually do the laundry just to have a peace of mind in the week-end and also to able to work with free of mind on my works if is there any. I mostly don’t like to accumulate things and at the end, I will not have a time to finish them. I’ve always use the present as my best time I’ve ever had in my life, and it works.
Since this past Friday was the tenth anniversary of church I went to buy some articles; I used some of them to decorate the peavey of the church, some of them to do the cleaning and some are just toys for the children. And forget, I had a new dress for myself.
At the end of the day, I’ve been invited by some friends; we went to the restaurant and after that we just headed home and that was it for that day.

FRIDAY
That Friday was the very ties one I’ve ever seen; and it’s a day just before the weekend. Come on; early in the morning, three of the friend of mines came to my place to get their hair done.
First of all I did forget that they did change the time the service supposed to start that morning; I thought it was at ten thirty Am as usual. But believe me, I was so in hurry that I’ve done my friends hair by nine forty-five so I can have enough of time to get ready and go to church on time, because I hate being late. By the time I was walking them out of the house, I just call one of the elders in our church to confirm the time, and there I’ve realized the service starting at one pm. We’ve invited a lot people; so at that point, I and my friends, we just changed a little bit our plan. We’ve decided to go to the closest restaurant for break-fast. While we went out there, people are so great and the food was so delicious; unbelievable our day just started really, really wonderful.
Now from the restaurant, we just head to the church; believe me, before we’ve got out there, there are bunch of crowd of people in and out, at the fact that we some people we couldn’t even found a single seat. There were a lot of performances: the choir had sung; the youth group performed choreographies and dances; the elders presented some sketch; it was great but since there are lots of crowd, we just stood up and watched. At the end the service, there were foods for everybody; people have been eating, some have been taking it home. And I believe no one left with empty handed, and so glad with that. And after all I and my friends, we stay at my place until the next day.

A new summary

For this final week of my quest, I feel great but pretty late to update my blog. Last week, I missed one day to go to the gym because I got home very late after day at work. But I will try to make the most entries this week. I met a new friend at the gym yesterday and I am so excited to meet him again next time, I mean at the next session. I really don't know if you appreciate my blog's entries... I just feel like my blog is boring!

Lessons on Weight Loss

Lessons on Weight Loss

Lessons on Weight Loss

Most people who have lost weight (and kept it off) adopted these five habits. It'll be your loss if you adopt them, too. By Liz Applegate Ph.D. Image by Zohar Lazar From the August 2004 issue of Runner's World
When it comes to dieting, everyone wants to be a loser. But only 10 percent of people who manage to drop pounds also manage never to see them again. The good news is that as a runner, you already have a head start in joining this enviable club.

For the past dozen years, researchers Rena Wing, Ph.D., and James Hill, Ph.D., have meticulously tracked about 6,000 people who have met the minimum requirements to participate in their National Weight Control Registry: They must have lost at least 30 pounds and maintained that for at least a year. (The average is 70 pounds off and for six years.)

The successful losers didn't turn to wacky eating plans, fad diets, or extreme measures like gastric-bypass surgery. Instead, what worked was common sense-they modified their diet and increased their physical activity to change their caloric balance. Whether you're consciously trying to drop five pounds or 70-or just looking to stay in top form-following these five key habits of NWCR participants will make you a big-time loser and a better runner.

Keep Up the Carbs

You won't find NWCR folks on a high-protein diet. Most successful losers get about 49 percent or more of the calories from carbs, about 29 percent from fat, and the remainder from protein. This makes sense for runners, as you need the carbs to fuel your workouts. The key is selecting the right carbs-foods rich in fiber, like grains, beans, fruits, and veggies. Fiber helps dieters by providing a sense of fullness. Even better, research shows that a diet that includes 34 or more grams of fiber daily actually drops the number of calories your body takes up from your food. Over a year's time, this could equal a 10-pound weight loss.

Action plan

Divide and conquer your dinnerware. Carbohydrate-rich foods should make up about three quarters of your plate, with protein sources making up the rest.
Go with the whole grains. Multigrain breads, whole-grain pasta, and brown rice all have higher fiber than the alternatives.
Read labels. Select foods that supply no more than 30 fat calories for every 100.
Take Good Notes

Most dieters typically stop bothering to write down what they eat after a few months of weight loss. But many NWCR participants, like runners logging miles and times, have kept a food diary for years, taking measurements and noting precise portions and calorie counts. This allows them to respond quickly to changes in their eating patterns, says Wing. The bonus for runners is that, combined with a training log, a food diary can help determine the crucial connection between eating and energy-like how a late-afternoon snack of fruit and a handful of trail mix might affect your performance on an after-work run.

Action plan

Write down what you eat, with serving sizes, for three days; tally up the calories (calorie-count.com is a good source). For weight loss, your intake should be about 12 to 14 daily calories to every pound of your body weight.
Review your three-day food log and decide which foods you could pare down, with the goal of saving 100 or more calories daily.
With a set of measuring cups, compare how much you serve yourself to the suggested serving size. The discrepancy can be shocking. A serving of pasta or rice, for example, should be 1/2 cup, about the size of a computer mouse. (Runners need six to seven servings daily.)

Become a Morning Person

In one study, 78 percent of NWCR participants reported eating breakfast every day-a habit that may help curb appetite later in the day. Research shows that breakfast eaters, especially those who start the day with cereals (a natural for fiber), have a lower body mass index than those who skip the morning meal. Plus, protein often appears in breakfast foods in its proper proportion for sating appetite. Eating in the a.m. is particularly important for runners who work out in the morning, since it helps restock drained glycogen stores, along with supplying a variety of vitamins, minerals, and protein needed for recovery and good health.

Action plan

Sit down for breakfast. Allow yourself time to eat a bowl of fiber-dense cereal with skim milk topped with fruit before heading off to work.
Or take it with you. Stock up on easy-to-transport healthy food like peanut butter on whole grain toast or banana, cereal, and yogurt packed the night before, should you end up in a rush out the door.
Always include a protein source-eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, lean meat-which helps curb your appetite later in the day.

A new life

Since I started to work out, my everyday life changed. I feel more comfortable and more happier. Every single moment spend at the gym brings me a change in my body and in my daily life. Today, I have tried to maintain my balance by eating food low in carbohydrates and higher in healthy proteins, fiber and carbs mainly from fruits, vegetables and oatmeal. It’s been much easier to keep myself from going low. Work out was not the only way to control my weight. I was controling my nutrition also. Everyday, I burn 100 calories a mile, but I was doing 5 miles a day. So, every week I burn 2500 calories ( work out 5 days a week).

QUEST FOR MY DAILY LIVING

Let me drive you a little bit through my daily life, from Monday throughout Saturday.

Monday
Waking up Monday mornings is a very awful moment that I usually have in my life, but it’s not a big deal; as long as I’m doing it momentarily, I’m getting use to it.…after taking my breakfast, I check in my school bag to make sure everything is in it place before a move out of the house, going to school. I usually get to the bus stop, five minutes before he pull over. …on my break at school, I always few minutes to find something to eat and the rest of the time, I will use it to go through my Tuesday home works if it’s there any. After classes, I get run to my part-time job. You can’t forget that one, because that’s what pays my bills.

Tuesday
After classes, I run to the grocery stores to grab some few things that I might need during the week and the weekend. I usually don’t have time to do it during the weekend. When I get home, I do the cooking, and, I eat if needed. Sometimes I don’t even eat the whole day, for I’m afraid to gain more weights. But you know what? If I could, I would stay even a week without food, because foods are the most important things that are keeling us especially in United-States. After thirty minutes to one hour relaxation, I run to the gym for some few hours.

Wednesday
At five O’clock in the morning, I got out the house and started running. Well, as the matter of facts, I don’t run all the time like that; sometimes I do the normal walking and sometimes the speed walking. I go to the gym after all to burn more calories. But in order to make my body to take a good shape, I’ve decided to swim at least two yards every Wednesday. And after all I feel so good during the day and even the whole day and also it makes everything easier for me as well.

Fitness

When I was eighteen (18) years old, I looked little tinny. When I was twenty (20), I get little heavier. When I weighted myself I figure out that I am controlling my food and diabetes. For the past 3 years, every month in my life is increased 3 pounds in my body. I was so sensitive about my weight and did not like anybody talk about it. I was trying to find the way to get off this situation of my life. I made a choice from that day. I decided to run at least 12 miles a day and swim at least once a week. I am using the gym close to my house. Now I am getting my shape back. And I realized that fitness is for everybody

Re-starting my life

For my quest I choose to go to the gym, fitness. Each moment I spent in the gym it is driving through my goal which is to loose some extra pounds, to be healthy and happy. I feel more confident with myself because I am not alone to do it and I get support from my mother and my brother. And I know that I can make it even though is hard sometimes to get ready and go to the gym and work on schedule. I am just thinking how you can give up of something when you do not have the necessay support to reach a goal or an objectif in this life. Without determination, you couldn't do it. I have this determination and I will!

Interview essay final draft

INTERVIEW Essay FINAL DRAFT
I chose to interview some people in my gym center for the reason why they love to go to gym and have some of their story about using the gym frequently. My first interview was with one of my gym friends, a guy I met out there four weeks ago. Every time I went to the gym I’ve seen this guy work out very harder than I do. You should’ve seen him very anxious on what he does; that was the reason why I wanted to interview him.  It was two Am when I approach Samir and started asking him about how he did get up to that point. First he was little shied and didn’t want to talk to me. But finally he agreed to answer my questions with questions. I’ve decided to continued with him like that, because if I interrupt him by telling him do not answer questions with questions I think I will not get what I wanted; so I’ve chose do not. Right after ten second, he opened his rubrics:
-You wanted to know the reason why everyone comes to the gym right? Ok, let me ask you: Do you actually wanted to know just about me or in general? He continued asking. We can just talk about you if it doesn’t bother you that way. I’ve replied.
-Ok that’s fine, go ahead; first of all, you need to hurry up because I have lots to do and I also have place to go.
-Don’t worry, I will be quick, it’s only some few questions.
-By the way, do you want us to be seated out here or you wanted to seat in the conference room?
-anywhere you want, girl, I’m in the gym so don’t worry, I’m fine in here.
-Ok, thanks Samir
-Anytime.
To be honest with you, I’ve prepared ten questions for him.
I’m sorry, if I may ask, how old are you, Samir?
-Twenty three years old.
-I think I am old than you?
We both look at each other and started laughing.
He was looking at me seriously and waiting for my next question.
I said Samir why did you choose to work out at this time of the day?
He replied: “I go to school in the morning, and go work after school; I don’t have time; that is the reason why you’ve been seeing me this late, working out so hard.                                                    -I live pretty much the same life like you, man. I go to school in the morning and get off at one Pm. I work from three pm to eleven pm; when I get off work, and found my way home, I get some thing to eat first, get my home work done and come to the gym at two am.
My next question was little bit personal. The reason why I say that, it’s just that out there, he stunned me and started asking me this:
-hey girl, do you need ride home?
I don’t think so, why do you ask? I’ve replied.
-I have ever seen you bring car to the gym; or do you live around here?
-All of these questions lead me to the next question for you, my friend.
-And what it is?
Do you come to the gym to look for girls or looking at them?
He looks at me and laughs very loud and said:
“-no my friend.”
I asked him so why do you want to give me ride home?
He said: ‘just wanted to give you a lift sometimes in case you need it.
-So what is your real purpose of working out everyday like that?
-“First, I don’t want to die very young I need to keep my body in good shape and my health in normal condition”. He’d continuous to say, he wanted to burn some calories too.
Since I knew the reason why he is coming to the gym, I ask him what the result is.
He said: “I have a very impressive result. I am in good shape and run after my 4 years little girl, I am in good shape. Now, I can run a marathon in Olympic and win the gold medal”. We both laugh. I’ve continued and ask him what the hard part of working out is?
He said: “it’s making me very tired and don’t have time to see my little girl when I get home she is already in bed, my wife get mad sometimes”. I asked him how much that it cost you.
“In the one negative part it’s like 20 dollars a month but since I am in good shape and in a good condition the money doesn’t matter”. I look at him and said:
“Thanks Samir” see you tomorrow? He said:  “be on time”.
My next interview was with the gym trainer; he’s very good looking guy; very handsome. He has an easy and very good smile. To me, he’s a good guy. Every time I got to the gym, he helps a lot through out every day.
I asked him how he likes working over here.
He said: “I like working in here and I’m happy helping people to work out and make sure they get what they want”.
I asked him what and how long it takes to be a gym trainer.
“About four years. I’ve first work out myself, am in good shape, known quite a lot of techniques and take some training classes”. I asked him how it felt about going to the gym every time.
“Like said before, it makes me feel happy and I stay in good condition”, in addition, it does pays my bills and put the foods on my table.
As soon as he said that, we both laugh together.
Although, I did not finish my ten questions interview with Samir and also with the gym attendant, I felt so happy, encouraged, off yoked and bold that I can go for it and achieve it in my life too. Even if I don’t have anyone to train me, I can also do this by myself just like Samir and this gym attendant. And this is my devotion: I will be more active in my own everyday life. I mean I won’t wait to get at the gym before working out. To be happy, healthy. If they can do it so I that was my determination!

Different machine each day

When I got a new catty the vet told me to take away certain toys for a few weeks at a time. So when I brought it back out the catty was to see it and still interested in it. This principle applies to the gym perfectly.
If I go to the gym each day use the same machines, I am bound to get sick of them. Last my mind back to when I first went to the gym. It was so exciting and everything I did was enjoyable. Well we can sort of recreate this feeling by making sure we don’t abuse and overuse our favorite pieces of equipment.
For example I love the rowing machine, but if I do it everyday the very sight of it makes me feel like throwing. So I do it only on Monday and Thursday and since I made that change I noticed that I am much more enthusiastic about getting on the machine and working it hard. Like I am trying, to make use of a fleeting opportunity.
The gym is a very healthy place. It is where people go to improve their bodies and get over some mental and physical injuries. It should be a place of energy and fun. It should never feel like a burden. I try to be creative with my workout and shift my perspective if I am being too negative.

How people do prepare for the gym? Just think about it!

In order to be successful at the gym, people must make it a habit to attend the gym on a regular basis. After awhile, going to the gym becomes rather monotonous. Obviously, we all have our own styles of preparation for the gym. Some of us are more animated before attempting a big loft while others are somewhat quiet and keep to themselves.
Before even stepping foot into the gym, I make sure that I had a solid pre-workout meal consisting predominantly of carbohydrates moderate protein, and small amount of fat. It is an advice from one trainer at the gym where I am working out. I cannot stress how important pre- workout nutrition is in order to maximize our performance in the gym.
The importance of pre-workout nutrition is to have consumed a proper pre-workout meal 45-90 min before our workout. This will allow for optimal digestion and prevent any gastric discomfort. Now go and have fun at the gym!

summary

Last week on blog was awful, because I did not make entries as you ask for. It’s hard for me to write down everything about my quest that long you request for (3-5 paragraphs). But this week I will try to blog as much I can. Last week at the gym was interesting. I made some new friends Natasha (25) and Mike (27). We worked out together like crazy people. Mike made a joke about his fitness program. He said that: “I will be more and more attractive to women at the end of this program and I will go directly hit the red carpet in Hollywood”. And we laughed! On Thursday, I did not go because I was babysitting my friend’s daughter Elaina; she is so cute!

Going to the gym!

Going to the gym

Going to the gym is not something I look forward to. Heck, I don’t think it’s something anyone looks forward to. People’s motivation for going to the gym varies greatly, some go because they look forward to ripped abs and tiny, toned buttocks. I look forward to being able to lose weight and be able lift some stuff at work. However, one thing I’ve learned in the last three weeks I have spent being a member of gym, is there are so many things you can do to get a good result. So, this is my plan,  I want to go the gym every day after work and spend an hour and half to see what will be the result in a month.
We all have good intention of going to the gym on a regular basis to stay in shape, but many of us do not even make if through the front doors. What is it we are avoiding by not going to the gym? Before I do not like go to the gym because I do not know what am I doing or I just feel in good shape.  Then I think about what this quest can add to my way of life. I came out with some good and bad side to accomplish this quest.
First of all, the gym is a great way to meet new people. It is the sense of community sometimes working out can be a lonely task especially if we are just getting into the habit. Some work better in a group and the gym gives a sense of community while we are working out. Working out at the gym reminds me that I am not alone in my fight for a stronger and healthier body. Most of people struggle to stay fit just like me and I feel like I have the support of the others are working out at the gym with me. The gym offers me a variety of workouts. One of the keys to working out and seeing results is to switch it up. My body gets used to a work out  after awhile and that work out  won’t have as great of an affect on my body when it gets used to the routine. Changing my work out often will keep my body on its toes! I will work different muscles and will gain strength in different areas. The gym offers a variety of machines so I can keep my workout fresh.
I, also, think about get a personal trainer to reach my goal. Having a trainer could get me where I want to be healthier at a faster pace. A trainer will test me and speak with me about what I want to achieve out of my workouts. With his knowledge, he or she will help me construct a work out program that will best fit me, my body and my goals.
In the same manner, I think about money. Let’s face it! These days, it’s tough to have a gym membership because of the cost I have recently thought about cancelling my gym membership, but I always reconsider when I think about the initial fee I will have to pay if I end up wanting my gym membership back. If I have a gym membership, if I am frequent at the gym at least 3 days a week, if I am not visiting the gym often then I am wasting my money.
In the other hand, I look at the negative side of going to the gym. The air quality in a gym is very low. The air is filled with all different kinds of harmful chemicals, allergens, viruses, and bacteria. Many of equipment that being carpeting in the gym gives off toxic fumes for months and months! You could be breathing in this air which can make you sick. Besides that, gyms are full of germs; of course the managers try to keep their gym clean but it’s inevitable that a sweat house is going to be full of germs. I did not hear any friend tell me that he or she got sick because of the air in the gym, but it is a hypothesis. Clean off the machines before use and wash hands when done. I need to consider both sides before to decide to go for this quest or not.
As result, I decided to do this quest because I will gain much than not do it. Working out keeps people fit healthy, happy and sane. There are endless benefits to working out besides a good body. Physical appearance is not everything and it should not be our main reason for hitting the gym. At the end of this quest hope I will change a lot thing in my way of life.

shape magazine

I was thinking about shape magazine how much a lot of women the most are influenced by women on the cover of the magazine. How it push many women to think to change their image, I mean their look. Why not just  do fitness, eat healthy, be active, change the way of life in everyday life!

My impression about blog

It was my first time to use blogger.com. So I was impressed about how much people can do with this website. I visited the website and enjoyed it because I can share more with my classmates here, and write ,discuss about any kind of subject... My quest of course!
